The roots of the Patrick Auto Group go back as far as 1924 when our founding company, Hechler Motor Company, started selling new vehicles in downtown Highland Springs, Virginia (just three miles east of our present location). In 1926, Mr. Ted Patrick, our retired Chairman of the Board, began his automobile career when Alvin Hechler offered him a job cutting grass and washing cars. In 1939, Mr. Patrick became a certified Chevrolet technician. Several years later he started his sales career that lasted until his retirement in 1988.
In 1970, Mr. Patrick's son, Pat, joined the company and focused his efforts on the service side of the dealership. The business continued to grow and in 1985 Pat Patrick acquired the outstanding stock from the Hechler family and others and became the President/CEO. An opportunity presented itself in 1992 when Matthew Zuccker agreed to sell Zuccker Pontiac Buick GMC in Ashland, Virginia to Pat. The transaction was completed in March 1992 and a major upgrade of the land and building began immediately.
In 1993 the name of the locations officially became the Patrick Auto Group. The KIA franchise was added next to the Chevrolet operation in 1999.
Currently the 3rd Generation of the Patrick Family has entered the business and has assumed control of the day to day operations. Trey Patrick oversees the Chevrolet –Kia Location and Michael Patrick oversees the Pontiac Buick GMC location in Ashland.
Aggressive attention to detail and friendly customer service has allowed this family owned, third generation automotive business to become a leader in servicing the transportation needs of Central Virginia. Therefore, any contact with our people, products or services is truly "…Better Than Expected."
